Pros & cons

Pros

  • Panels can work independently: Two independent MPPTs allow the microinverter to manage each panel separately, so shading or a different orientation on one panel does not affect the performance of the other.
  • High-efficiency bifacial panels: The supplied JA Solar bifacial panels deliver 22.8% module efficiency and can also generate from light reaching their rear surfaces.
  • Practical mounting design: The coated-steel mounting frame is easy to set up, while its flat, open design makes it straightforward to add ballast.

Cons

  • Fixed mounting angle: The supplied frame uses a fixed 20° angle, so you cannot adjust the panel tilt to suit the season or installation position.
  • Flat-roof planning constraint: Solarfy state that the supplied fixed-angle mounting frame raises the rear edge of the panels to around 70cm. That is 10cm above the 60cm permitted-development limit for solar equipment on a flat roof.

Other items you may need

This plug-in solar kit includes all of the main equipment needed to get set up, but depending on where and how you install it, there may be a couple of additional items worth considering.

Ballast

If you’re installing the kit freestanding, you’ll need ballast to weigh down the mounting frame and help prevent movement or uplift. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the required ballast weight and positioning.

Cable protection

If the AC cable runs through an exposed area, split conduit can provide additional protection. Because the plugs and connectors are moulded onto the cable, split conduit can be fitted around it without needing to remove them.
