City Plumbing's dual-MPPT HiFlow PRO plug-in solar kits go on sale

After several weeks of being listed as out of stock, City Plumbing's new DMEGC 950W Hoymiles HiFlow PRO and DMEGC 1050W Hoymiles HiFlow PRO plug-in solar kits are finally available to buy for the first time. Priced at £480 and £504 delivered respectively, they're the two cheapest complete dual-MPPT plug-in solar kits we've identified as currently available in Great Britain. The combination of high-efficiency solar panels, dual-MPPT microinverters and adjustable mounting equipment makes them two of the best-value options on the market.

Two HiFlow PRO kits now available

City Plumbing introduced its new HiFlow PRO range in October, but neither kit was initially available to order. However, both are now showing as in stock and available for delivery.

There are two options:

Both kits include a Hoymiles HMS-800-2WB microinverter with two independent MPPT channels, along with adjustable mounting equipment suitable for a range of installation locations, including ground, wall, balcony and flat-roof setups.

Both configurations are approved for plug-in solar use in Great Britain and listed on the ENA Type Test Register. The ENA approval references are CITYP/21283/V1/A1 for the 950W kit and CITYP/21286/V1/A1 for the 1050W kit.

What makes the HiFlow PRO kits different?

The difference between these new PRO kits and City Plumbing's existing HiFlow models is the upgraded microinverter. The standard HiFlow kits use a single-MPPT Hoymiles HF-800-WB microinverter, while the new PRO versions use the Hoymiles HMS-800-2WB, which has two independent MPPT channels.

With a single-MPPT inverter, both solar panels share the same channel and are managed together. If one panel receives less sunlight than the other, perhaps because of shading or because the panels face different directions, this can reduce the performance of the whole system, resulting in less electricity being generated.

A dual-MPPT inverter manages each panel independently, so one panel receiving less sunlight is less likely to hold back the other. This can improve electricity generation, particularly when the panels experience different levels of sunlight throughout the day.

Both versions still have the same maximum inverter output of 800VA.

The upgrade is also relatively inexpensive, with the new PRO models costing just £24 more than their equivalent single-MPPT versions. If your planned installation experiences some shading throughout the day, or you'd like the flexibility to position your panels at different angles or facing different directions, we think the extra £24 is well worth considering.

Standout value among in-stock dual-MPPT kits

Our directory currently lists 13 complete two-panel plug-in solar kits with dual-MPPT microinverters, mounting equipment included and stock available to order. Delivered prices range from £480 to £989, with a median of £749. The median panel capacity across these same 13 kits is 920W.

At £480 and £504 delivered, City Plumbing's HiFlow PRO models are the two cheapest kits in this group, sitting £269 and £245 below the median price respectively. Despite their lower prices, both offer more panel capacity than the 920W median, with 950W and 1050W respectively. They also include adjustable mounting equipment, offering greater flexibility over panel positioning.

With just £24 separating the two models, the 1050W version looks particularly good value if you have room for its larger panels. That extra £24 buys another 100W of panel capacity, while retaining the same dual-MPPT inverter and adjustable mounting equipment.

For comparison, Zendure's new dual-MPPT 920W SolarFlow 800 plug-in solar kit also became available to pre-order this week, priced at £799. That's £319 more than City Plumbing's 950W HiFlow PRO kit, despite offering less panel capacity.

The main reason to buy plug-in solar is to reduce your electricity bills over time. While the panels can start saving you money from day one, those savings first need to cover the cost of the equipment. The less you spend upfront, the sooner your kit can pay for itself and start delivering a net financial benefit.

That's why we're particularly enthusiastic about City Plumbing's new HiFlow PRO kits. Their combination of high-spec equipment and low prices gives them the potential to achieve relatively short payback periods, followed by many years of further electricity bill savings. As always, the actual return will depend on where you install the panels and how much of the electricity your household uses.
